Mission

The mission of the ESBG is to be the European voice of savings and retail banking, by raising the profile and promoting savings and retail banks with EU Institutions and stakeholders (Interest Representation), by being a platform for joint initiatives and projects (Business Cooperation) and by implementing technical assistance projects (Consultancy Services).

In the field of Interest Representation with the EU institutions in the field of financial services, the strategic priority of ESBG is the promotion of pluralism in the European banking industry. All financial institutions, independent of size, scope, legal form or business model should benefit from the same, level regulatory playing field: "Same business, same risks, same rules".

In the field of Business Cooperation, ESBG endeavours to facilitate the creation of platforms for members' exchange of experience and best practices. Concrete initiatives have taken shape in the field of cards, SME consultancy, banking technology, capital markets, to name but a few.

In the field of Training & Consultancy, ESBG provides technical assistance in partnership with multilateral agencies. A considerable number of small or very large projects have been successfully managed, such as the EU-China Financial Services Cooperation Projects or the EU project to disseminate information to small and medium sized enterprises on the impact of Basel II.
